چکیده

In the coastal shorelines terrestrial organic materials transported by river runoff represent an important material source to the ocean and is estimated that 0.4×1015 g yr−1 organic carbon is discharged to ocean by land flows or rivers (Meybeck, 1982, He et al, 2010). This amount of riverine organic carbon is sufficient to support the entire organic carbon turnover in the ocean (Williams and Druffel, 1987) even though, little terrestrial signal by carbon isotopic ratio (δ13C) of the bulk DOC in ocean was shown, suggesting that terrestrial organic carbon undergo rapid removal and decomposition within estuarine mixing (Druffel et al, 1992; Hedges et al, 1997).

Functional Profiling of Metabolic Regulation in Marine Bacteria

Muthusamy, Saraladevi (2016). Functional Profiling of Metabolic Regulation in Marine Bacteria, Linnaeus University Dissertation No 245/2016, ISBN: 978-91-88357-07-6. Written in English. Oceans are powered by active, metabolically diverse microorganisms, which are important in regulating biogeochemical cycles on Earth. Most of the ocean surface is often limited by nutrients, influencing bacteria...

Effects of starvation on the carbohydrate metabolism in Harmonia axyridis (Pallas)

Trehalose plays an important role in energy storage, metabolism, and protection from extreme environmental conditions in insects. Trehalose is the main blood sugar in insects, and it can be rapidly used as an energy source in times of need. To elucidate the mechanisms of the starvation response, we observed the effects of starvation on trehalose and glycogen, trehalase activity, and the relativ...

Proteomic Responses of Roseobacter litoralis OCh149 to Starvation and Light Regimen

Roseobacter litoralis OCh149 is a type strain of aerobic anoxygenic phototrophic bacteria in marine Roseobacter clade. Its full genome has been sequenced; however, proteomic research, which will give deeper insights into the environmental stimuli on gene expression networks, has yet to be performed. In the present study, a proteomic approach was employed to analyze the status of R. litoralis OC...

Effects of starvation and desiccation on energy metabolism in desert and mesic Drosophila.

Energy availability can limit the ability of organisms to survive under stressful conditions. In Drosophila, laboratory experiments have revealed that energy storage patterns differ between populations selected for desiccation and starvation. This suggests that flies may use different sources of energy when exposed to these stresses, but the actual substrates used have not been examined. We mea...

The effect of maternal hypothyroidism during pregnancy on carbohydrate metabolism in adulthood in rats

Introduction: Many of the diseases of adulthood are originated from the intrauterine conditions during fetal life. Because of the importance of thyroid hormones in growth and development of the fetus, the effects of maternal hypothyroidism on carbohydrate metabolism in adulthood was investigated. Methods: Pregnant rats were divided into the fetal hypothyroidism (FH) and the control (C) group...
